The March meeting of the GERWC was held on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at 6:00pm at the YMCA in downtown Evansville.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Richard Tenbarge, Cedric Hustace, Jerry Walker, Ray Pritchet, Bob Christmas, Bob Head, Bob Lauderdale, Don Nichols, Tom Anderson, Carol Anderson, Bob Head, Joseph Whelan, and Mike Higney

GUESTS PRESENT: 

RACE CALENDAR: Jerry Walker stated that he had gotten a lot of positive feedback on the race calendar in the last newsletter, He further described how he would keep the events schedule separate from the recurring events. 

TREASURER’S REPORT: Cedric Hustace gave the Treasurer’s report. 

RACE TIMING: Richard reminded everyone of the St. Patrick’s Day 5K, this coming Saturday.  Also that we have a request to do an event in Mt. Vernon, Indiana on June 25, 2005, which we will do.  A request to do an event in Mcleansboro, Illinois was declined because of distance.  Richard reminded everyone that we need volunteers and suggested that we find a race director who would take charge of the events, receive the fee and pay the club a percentage.

WEBSITE:  Richard asked if anyone had any questions concerning the website, everyone indicated they are happy with the way it’s going.

BANQUET: Cedric advised that all banquet-related expenses had been paid.

WALKER’S REPORT: On Sunday, March 6, 2005 six area race walkers went to Louisville to participate in the Mason/Dixon Indoor Track Games, all medaled including Bob Head and Bob Christmas.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Angela was not able to attend

NEWSLETTER:  Jerry Seddon was absent, Richard advised that out last newsletter was the largest ever. Next newsletter will be out in late April with information due April 15, 2005.

STEP UP PROGRAM: Carol Anderson gave the Step Up Club Report.  The Toyota 8K is scheduled for April 23, 2005, planning is ongoing. Three new Step Up Clubs including Holy Redeemer and Holy Rosary.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Joe Whelan advised that  six applications had been received to date.

PICNIC: Don Nichols is starting the planning for the annual picnic. The date will be August 14, 2005.  Details later.

OTTER’S STADIUM RUN: The date of the Otter’s Stadium Handicap Run will be at 5:00pm on Saturday, July 23, 2005.  Cedric is contacting last year’s sponsors and has the flyer and T-shirt design.

WELBORN GRANT MEETING: The Welborn Foundation is having a grant meeting on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 5:00pm at Integra Bank downtown.  There is interest in applying for a grant for the summer track program.  Gordon Benfield and Richard Tenbarge will attend.

SENIOR GAMES: Bob Lauderdale stated that the Senior Games would be held on May 14, 2005 at Central High School Stadium.

ART’S COUNCIL: Richard read a letter from the Art’s Council that advised they would not do ‘First Night’ this year. Instead they are working on an art festival sometime in 2006 and thought a ‘Run for the Arts’ would be a good addition.
