GERWC MINUTES
APRIL 14, 2004

PRESENT: Richard Tenbarge, Tom Anderson, Carol Anderson, Ray Pritchett, Bob  Christmas,  Bob Head, Jerry Seddon, Mike Higney, Joe Whelan, Bob Lauderdale, and Jim Effinger.

TREASURER REPORT:  Read and approved.

RACE TIMING: Mike reviewed with the Board the current numbers for the Toyota Run coming up on April 24, 2002.  He reported 456 total entries to date. The Toyota Run was discussed with comments from the directors concerning number of volunteers needed for 8k split timing, 8k finish line, mile run, ½ & ¼ mile runs, water stops and other duties. It was decided that about thirty volunteers would be needed. 

WEB PAGE: Everyone was happy with Chad Hartmann’s decision to do the web page.

RACE CALENDER: No report as Janet could not make the meeting.

WALKER’S REPORT: Bob Head gave the Walker’s Report.  Among other things he said that one of the local race walkers, Joan Byrne is rated tenth in the world in the 1500 meter free style swim in her age group.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Angela could not make the meeting due to work.  Richard reported that he is looking for ways to increase membership, all and any suggestions accepted.

NEWSLETTER:  Jerry reported that the next newsletter would be coming out by the end of April and that everyone should give his or her reports, etc, as soon as possible.

PICNIC: No report this date as Don could not make the meeting.

STEP UP CLUB: Tom and Carol gave the Step Up Club report.  Jennie O’Conner, of the school corporation wrote an article about the club for the Vanderburgh County School System.  The booklet from the Health Department showing 30 running and walking paths in and around Evansville is about complete and will be soon ready for distribution.  There was some talk about getting it on a website somewhere, maybe the Health Department.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Joe Whelan gave the report on the scholarship program, he stated that there are 26 applicants to date and two scholarships will be given.  The winners will be announced in late May or early June. It will be a difficult job.

NEW BUSINESS:  Bob Lauderdale asked for $150.00 to buy trophies for the Annual Middle School BallPark Run.  Tom make a motion to grant the $150.00, Ray gave a second to the motion, motion carried.

Bob Lauderdale also made a request for $150.00 to by trophies for the SIAC track and field event to be held in late May. Carol made a motion to grant the request, Bob gave a second to the motion, the motion carried.

Bob Lauderdale stated that the Senior Games would be on June 5th, 2004 and that the Ray Rayl Memorial 5K would be held on November 6, 2004.
