Attending: Gordon, Linda, Jim, Bob Head, Craig, Ced, Jerry,
Bob Christmas, Ray, Bob Lauderdale, Greg Sharp, Joe, Carol and Tom.
Guest: Don Nichols
Treasurer Report: Submitted. Voted for approval.
RACE TIMING: Gordon is still talking to YMCA about a possible
merge. He is also talking to Shane Thread. Kent Scheller said he will time
Toyota if we have no one.
WEB PAGE: Greg Sharp will take this position over. His email
address is on the web page, if anyone needs to send him something of web
page interest. The races we time will be listed separate of those we do
not time.
BANQUET: The club will have to purchase tea, as the caterer
will not supply. The caterer also needs a head count 3-4 days prior to
the banquet. Please get your reservations in early! Linda will be at SWIRCA
building by 4:30 to set up. If anyone is interested in helping, please
be there at this time. GERWC will also assist in the clean up.
RACE CALENDAR: In Feb. there is a race called "Gotta have
a Heart". It is a Princeton. Bill Neiderhaus is the race director. Joe
will need to get a list of races to Jerry and Greg, by the end of Feb.
They will have to go to the end of March. For the Feb/March newsletter.
WALKERS: The Southern IN. Racewalkers club has a new president.
It is Mike Hudson. He is also the race director for the National 15K. They
have got the bid agreement for the 15k. New Balance is the sponsor again.
June 1st will be the race. Volunteers will be needed again for
lap counting. GERWC will once again time this event.
MEMBERSHIP: no info available at this time. Will the P.O.
Box address or Janet's home address be on the application to send new and
renewals?
NEWSLETTER: This is due out at the end of Feb. Tom has sent
a logo for Toyota, for a small Thank you type of advertisement. Can we
recognize donations? No address's can be listed. Jerry really needs some
articles!! We will have some pictures and articles on the banquet in the
next.
STEP-UP: The 150/200 mile prizes are ordered. They have several
kids who have reached this goal! We have one possible new group forming.
It is at the Learning Center. Carol and Toyota will finalize the guidelines
for the contest of the Spring Day 8K t-shirt contest. Also a prize will
be decided on too. Funding for the prize will come out of Step-up account.
Tom will suggest $3.00 per participant. Kids and adults, plus $500 to manage
all the kid's races. Or if they don't go for this we will ask for $3 ahead
(adults) and $1 ahead (kids) also everyone gets a number.
GERWC will have to time, get results and send these to the newspaper.
Help with road management and all water stations. We will also work the
kids' race. They will be 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, and the 1 mile. How many Shutes
for this race? Toyota wants the course to be certified this year. Step-Up
will pay $150 to get this done.
SCHOLARSHIP: No reply's on this. Next year we will revise
the guidelines. Joe has sent out 29-30 letters to all senior counselors
and coaches. Will contact Barb at the Y, on putting this in their newsletter.
We will even have to make flyers out to set at races.
OLD BUSINESS:
Arts Council 1/2 marathon: If no sponsors at the end of the
month, the event will have to be canceled. They only have a "maybe" $5000
sponsor.
Ynot2K: Not nearly as many late registrations, as last year.
This was because of the weather. Only75 participants, this year. Do we
want to continue in 2003? We do get a lot of PR from this race.
R.E.A.C.T.: George Lynn and his wife will be at the banquet.
We will present them with their donation at this time.
NEW BUSINESS:
Awards: Gordon has picked up the plaques. Only waiting on
the final voting to get certificates printed out.
Ray Rayl award: This has been voted on.
Volunteer award: This has been voted on.
OTHER: Washington, IN. want s to have their race again. They
would like to know if GERWC can time again. Will have to get a date though.
Shoe Carnival will have a "managers" only race. They expect 300 participants.
We will charge them $2 ahead.
Guidelines for Small races: We will discuss next meeting on
this matter.
Next Meeting: Feb.12th. At 6 p.m. at the YMCA
