Attending: Rob, Gordon, Janet, Ray, Bob C., Chad, Bob H., Linda,
Jim, Ann, Craig
Treasurer Report: Total of all Accounts (as of 1/31/02)
$6835.06
Race Timing: The first race that we will try the computer equipment
on will be the St Patrick’s Day 5K.
The flyer is on the web site (with the wrong date). Jim Bush is the
race director. The race is March 16th and it will be a monitored race for
the walking division. Some Owensboro guy wants to learn the computer equipment.
This was brought up that this is not a good idea. Still in contact with
Tara Hipp from Toyota race. There will be a meeting for the River Run on
Friday Feb 15th. When anyone gives out the web site address for our page,
do not put the 3 W’s in front of it. Gerwc.com only! We have had 1600 hits
on the site already! Chad has installed the race program in Jim Bush’s
home computer. At the March 16th race the Step-Up club can have a table
set up. But the Anderson’s will be out of town. So if anyone would like
to do this for them please contact Tom or Carol Anderson.
Banquet: All went well! We had 104 total that included the 19
freebies. We had 3-4 no shows. We are discussing a food change for next
year. Tom is checking into different restaurants. Next year do we
want a speaker or fashion show? Although we have been trying to get Tim
Seaman for our speaker next year. He won the National 15k held here in
Evansville of June 2001.
Race Calendar: Please get any races to Janet or Joe as soon as
possible.
Walkers Report: June 2, 2002 is the date for the National 15k
held again at Wesselman’s Park and with a start time of 7:30 am. We need
volunteers. Please contact Gordon if interested again this year! I will
send a list of what duties need to be filled to Gordon. Bob Head is now
in charge of the lap counters.
Membership: Elizabeth is processing the names in the computer
as they are sent in. She is including the names of those that have paid
but are not getting a newsletter. If you know anyone who is not getting
a newsletter, please contact Elizabeth or any other board member or officer.
Chad would like a list of those that, puts volunteering on their applications.
Newsletter: Was mailed. This last newsletter was put together
by Janet and Elizabeth. Please make it easy for Janet and send articles!
Deadline for next newsletter items will be March 18th. We will probably
not see any or much changes. Will continue with the profile interview.
Step-Up Club: They have a new team leader at the Joshua Academy.
Carol has ordered the hats for those who have hit the 100-mile marker!
Have a few kids almost there. They are awaiting the flyer for the Toyota
race. As stated in previous minutes, this race will benefit the Step-up
club. As soon as the flyers are out it will be sent out and on the
web site. This is a must do race!
Scholarship: We did not give this out at the banquet, but it
can still be given. If you know any one who is a member and has a upcoming
freshman that will be on track, please contact Joe Whelan.
Old Business:
1. Finish Shute: Bob Christmas got a quote on getting 25 more plates
plus screw in posts at a cost of $1300. Gordon will contact Mike
on maybe the city buying these and letting us use them. But Rob suggested
that his Boy Scout troop make these as a project. Will include the PVC
pipe and hook and this will be concrete in a coffee can. Need 200 yards
worth. Will need about 30 made. If all possible we will have to contact
Steggy.
2. Shoe Carnival: Sunday Feb 24th at 9 am. This is a company picnic
type of event with a race held in their parking lot. Volunteers include
Chad, Drew, Jim, and Ray. We will charge $50 for them borrowing the starter
pistol and the clock. This begins at 10am for Shoe Carnival employees only.
New Business:
1. RRCA Membership: This is a $2.25 per person membership fee. (Club
membership amount X $2.25) Insurance is extra in this. Will get magazine.
(Footnotes) Will get a manual on how to do road races. Can insure equipment.
Will get race management ideas. About $500 per year. Will get National
recognition. Along with the Indiana link on their web site, Gordon will
see if this will benefit us.
2. RRCA Convention: Held in Norfolk, VA. May 2-4th. The board voted
for Gordon to go to this to learn more about this. He will also be seeing
about getting his National coaching certification. He will get resources
for marathon training and can charge a small fee on coaching. The club
voted to allow him $1000 to take to this convention to pay for hotel,
registration, gas, coaching certification, food.
3. Toyota race is on April 13th. Toyota is the only sponsor. They have
provided $10,000. For this race to be put on. That will include trophies,
food, and tee shirts. The race is free registration, but Toyota will donate
the $15 race entry fee to the Step-Up club. The first 500 are guaranteed
a tee, but you can only get it if you complete the 1-mile or 8k race. You
will need your race number to get it. Chad will need at least a half-hour
to get all the names in the computer. Kids can get entered last. Registration
will have to end at 9:30. Will have a board with the names of the entries
along with the race number for easy pick up. Early registration is a must!
Flyer may be ready in 3-4 weeks. At the race Step-up cannot promote their
club. But you can wear a Step-up hat or tee.
4. Club Brochures: We take these to races or put in packets. On this
brochure it will include what we do as a club. How we promote fitness.
What kinds of training is available, web site, contact people, and scholarships.
Everyone agreed that this would be made. Gordon and Janet will check on
the price of this.
Next Meeting: March 13th, 2002 Gordon
will not be at this meeting but Rob will be there. If anyone has any business
please contact one of these two.
