2005
Awards Banquet
The 2005 awards banquet was held on Saturday,
February 5, 2005 beginning at 6:00pm at the SWIRCA Building. About
one hundred and thirty people including selected high school track and
cross-country athletes attended. John Nunn local Harrison High School
Graduate and 2004 Summer Olympic Race Walker was the guest speaker.
His talk was both entertaining and inspirational. His stories of
race walking in the United States, Europe, South America, and the Olympics
in Athens, Greece were both amusing and contained good training tips for
all athletes. John was a member of the Army Elite Athlete Unit while
he was training and entering Race Walking events around the world.
John was discharged from the Army this past January but is continuing his
training with hopes of competing in the 2008 Summer Olympics. After
the Banquet the award winning high school track and cross-country athletes
kept John busy for about forty-five minutes asking questions and getting
his autograph. It was easy to see that they were quite impressed
with John, as was everyone in attendance.
